Custom Made Orthotic Devices
Orthotics are used to treat an abnormal gait - the way you walk. An abnormal gait can be caused by abnormal limbs or joints, and problems of the feet and legs are often to blame for pain while standing or walking. Orthotics can remedy a variety of structural foot and leg issues, including childhood foot deformities.
We do a non-weight barrier plaster of paris cast or a non-weight bearing 3d scan of both feet in order to make the orthotics. The devices are manufactured in an accredited lab.

Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. The plantar fascia is a large band of tissue on the bottom of the foot. It runs from the heel to the ball of the foot. Inflammation of this band of tissue is often characterized by pain in the heel first thing in the morning, as well as after rest. The pain is typically on the inside corner of the heel. The primary cause of plantar fasciitis is excessive pronation or some other mechanical imbalance in the foot. The long term solution to this injury is most often a functional orthotic.
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is the non-invasive (non-surgical) therapeutic use of high-intensity sound waves for the treatment of chronic orthopedic problems. It can be used to treat heel pain due to Plantar Fasciitis, or other conditions such as Achilles Tendonitis. It is believed that shock wave therapy stimulates tissue healing. Patients who have had heel pain or Achilles Tendonitis for at least six months are candidates for ESWT. A course of treatments involves one visit, once a week, for three weeks consecutively. Shock wave therapy is not covered by OHIP. However, it may be covered by some private medical or drug plans.
